He played a crucial role in India's first Test Series win against England in England. He scored 7 boundaries in his knock of 135 deliveries. After failing in the first innings, he made sure not to repeat his mistake and batted patiently in the second innings. This was his 4th Test Fifty. After conceding a lead of 97 runs in the first innings, India had to score 380 runs to win the match. But early wickets of Jaffer, Dravid and Tendulkar left India at 84/3 with more than a day remaining for the match.
