| Video Discription | Did you know that India's population is set to reach its peak in the early 2060s? That's right! According to the latest United Nations report, India will reach a peak of about 1.7 billion people before seeing a 12% decline. The World Population Prospects 2024 report that was released on July 12, stated a fascinating picture of the global population trend. It’s expected that the world’s population will keep growing for the next 50-60 years, reaching a peak of around 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s. After that, we'll see a gradual decline to about 10.2 billion by 2100. According to the report, India will hit an inflection point in 2085 when its population will be double of China’s 806 million, and the gap will only widen in the next few years. India, having recently surpassed China as the most populous nation, will maintain this title until the end of the century. By 2024, India’s population is projected to be around 1.45 billion, peaking at 1.69 billion in 2054 and then declining to 1.5 billion by 2100. This decline is tied to the country’s decreasing fertility rate, which dipped below the replacement level of 2.1 in 2020. On the other side, China’s population, currently at 1.41 billion, is expected to drop dramatically to 1.21 billion by 2054 and then plunge further to 633 million by 2100. This marks a major reduction, with China projected to lose over half its current population by the century’s end. Interestingly, the report highlighted that in around 100 countries, including India, the working-age population will grow through 2054, creating a demographic dividend, a major economic boost as more people enter the workforce. While child mortality rates have improved globally, the report stresses that high levels of child mortality remain in several regions. For instance, nearly all deaths of children under age 5 occur in 126 countries with growing populations, such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Nigeria and Pakistan.
