It's a consequence of the interaction between the breaking of the waves and dissolved organic matter. The result of these mechanical and chemical processes is a fluffy-like spume. Sea foam usually appears during stormy ocean conditions. Strong onshore winds blow sea foam from the shoreline or beach into terra firma. This natural phenomenon often results in large build-ups of froth. Sea foam resembles a sponge or jacuzzi-like bubbles. The Greek and Roman goddesses of love, Aphrodite and Venus, originate from the foam of the sea. Sea foam is not necessarily toxic. However, fossil fuels, stormwater runoff, pesticides, and human-processed contaminants could make it harmful. |
