Someone said (in good humour) “Amritavarshini may get personally offended when one refers to rain as bad weather!”. The celebration of rain and its beauty is adored through ages and Dikshitar’s adoration of rain in this song stands out as one of the unique creations in one of his own raga. Sri. Balamuralikrishna (BMK) has sung this song in several ways (like the south-west and the north-east Monsoons) and a video of one such rendition is presented here. BMK is accompanied on the Violin by Sri. Sriram Parasuram, Mridangam by Sri. K V Prasad and on the Ghatam by Dr. S Karthick. Smt. Mahathi Srinivas provides the support on Tanbura. I have no exact date of the transmission of this rendition, but one of the artistes featured here mentioned that the recording took place sometime in the early 1990s.
